Since “art is long and life, short” seize the day and learn more about the people of ancient Rome! Classical visual culture can show us how people dressed and behaved, and even shed light on their values and philosophies. Students are encouraged to make observations and inferences that foster visual literacy and identify key characteristics of the animals represented. In lieu of our yearly field trip to the Carlos to see the actual exhibit (which is extraordinary), my class was treated to an excellent interactive virtual presentation by a member of the education department staff. Her knowledge of hieroglyphs, combined with her enthusiasm for teaching, made the "tour" come alive for my students!
